What’s unique about your state (legally) and why do you think it matters?

Michigan offers Lady Bird deeds, which I get a lot of questions about. What people don't realize is the potential pitfalls that can come if you’re only relying on beneficiary designations.

What’s unique about clients in your area?

They often have vacation homes, either in Florida or “Up North” as us Michiganders endearingly refer to anything north of us. Ensuring property passes where it’s intended while minimizing taxes is a joy of mine to assist clients with.  

Why is Oath right for your clients?

Oath is a one stop shop for estate planning. We continually check in and provide clients with an option to harmonize their financial planning with their estate plan. It’s a big draw for our clients. 

What are the state specific documents that you prepare for clients, and why?

I prepare Michigan Statutory POAs and HC POAs. 

What do you estimate the longest possible probate is in your state? 

Probate in Michigan typically takes 6–14 months, but can take longer depending on the circumstances. In some cases, probate can take years to complete.

What’s the most impactful story you’ve had from one of your clients?

One of my clients had been the executor of her mom’s estate - she had a trust that was unfunded and ended up fighting for years in probate against family that no longer spoke after the ordeal. She wanted to make sure her family didn't go through that, so she came to me.
